Ratification Mechanism – 2005

The Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed by leaders of both parties on 9 January 2005. The deadline for the approval of the CPA was 24 January 2005 for the SPLM National Liberation Council. The peace accord was approved by the SPLM National Liberation Council on 24 January 2005. The accord was ratified unanimously by the SPLM National Liberation Council, which was presided over by the SPLM chief John Garang.¹ The National Assembly was expected to approve the CPA by 29 January and it was approved.² As such, the ratification mechanism provision of the accord was implemented.
