Paramilitary Groups – 2006

Notwithstanding initial delays in dismantling and disarming militia groups, significant progress was made in 2005. As reported in the United Nations Secretary General’s report, civilian militia groups were dismantled and disarmed. According to the report, 28,379 militias belonging to the Gardiens de la paix and the Combatants militants were disarmed and demobilized.¹
