Official Language and Symbol – 2005

The language provision of the 2005 CPA was incorporated in the Interim Constitution. The constitution came into effect on 9 July 2005.[fn]”The CPA Monitor-Monthly report on the Implementation of the CPA,” UNMIS, March 2006.[/efn_note] As such, there was no discrimination against the use of any language at any levels of government. Nevertheless, it was only on 2 October 2005 that the Sudan’s National Unity Government that included the NCP, SPLM and other parties approved English as an official language, together with Arabic.¹
