Cease Fire – 2000

Throughout the year, the major paramilitary groups from both sides respected the ceasefire. A dissident paramilitary group, the Continuity IRA, exploded a bomb at Mahon’s Hotel in Irvinestown on 7 February 2000.¹ Splinter groups who opposed the peace agreement were posing a threat to the peace in Northern Ireland.²
