UN Security Council Resolution 2260 (2016), adopted on January 20, approved a reduction of peacekeeping personnel in Cote d’Ivoire from 5,437 to 4,000.[1] On April 28, Resolution 2284 (2016) authorized the final extension of the UNOCI (United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire) mission with a scheduled closure date of June 30, 2017. The resolution mandated the UNOCI mission to protect civilians and UN personnel and support political institutions, security institutions and borders, humanitarian assistance, and public information until April 30, 2017. The closure process is scheduled to occur between May 1 and June 30, 2017, during which the Mission will withdraw all UNOCI personnel.[2]
