Internally Displaced Persons – 1997

The UNHCR reported an estimated 520,000 IDPs in Tajikistan in 1993. This number was reported as having shrunk to 25,285 by 1996.¹ The Protocol on Refugees had established a timeline of 12 to 18 months for the return of IDPs and refugees and called for the reactivation of the Joint Commission on Refugees.²
